Make sure that you photocopy any important documents. This includes passports, visas and booking confirmations. People misplace or have things stolen all the time. By having a backup of something you will be much more secure when you are abroad.

Make sure that you include medication, electronics, toothbrushes and underwear in your carry-on bag when at the airport. While these are all items that are fairly common and easy to buy, it is much easier having them on you in case you are hit with the dreaded scenario of luggage going missing.
